WHALE ZENTANGLE with VIDEO GUIDE for grades 4-8
WHALE ZENTANGLES is a comprehensive art lesson plan to guide your next art project in grades 4-8, using black permanent markers and water based paints. Includes a PDF teaching support document and the instructional video that demonstrates every step, supporting students with creating their unique whale drawings and paintings, while using the element of LINE, SHAPE, TEXTURE & SPACE.
Created with students aged 9-10, this lesson plan is aimed at grade 4, grade 5, grade 6 and middle school students. Use with upper elementary learners in a series of consecutive lessons. Encourage students to follow choice options and create their unique whale art and zentangle patterns, while being guided by the demonstrations in the video.
This lesson plan focuses on:
- SHAPE - to structure your whale
- LINE - to define & decorate your whale
- TEXTURE - created with zentangle patterning and wet-in-wet painting
- SPACE - layer elements
- Research through observational drawing and explore line patterning

The video preview is a very short clip from the actual resource to give you an idea of my teaching style. I am both a general ed classroom teacher and currently practicing as a Visual Art and Digital Media specialist educator, teaching students from ages 4-12, at a primary school.
