This visual art lesson plan suits grades 2-3. Introduce students to the concept that art is a means of communicating a message, and subject matter can be based on personal experiences.
All steps are clearly explained and photographed, giving you the confidence to deliver quality art lessons to your students, who will produce a painting about a specific learning moment that they enjoyed. Included are opportunities for student choice to encourage creative thinking and originality.
This step-by-step teaching guide can be used for themes based around: building friendships & learning communities and Who We Are (IB PYP).

- drawing faces with feelings
- drawing bodies with movement
- colour combinations to add shadow and light when painting

Materials:
- A3 wet grade art paper
- student sketchbook or drawing practise paper
- Liquid water colour paint (artist dye - FAS brand used)
- skin tone coloured pencils, crayons
- pencil, paintbrushes (large and small), black permanent marker, CD and smaller round objects for circle stencils,
*US paper sizing A3 = 11x17, A4 = 8.5x11
