Have you thought about individually farewelling your students at the end of lessons or the day? Connect individually with your students as you send them out the door. Let students choose from these cute animal cards and extend by inventing an action for each card / animal.
Print the poster with all the greetings and display at your room exit. Have students line up at the door for farewells. This works best for Specialist teachers, a great way to learn/reinforce names too.
When introducing, simply go through the examples in order, quickly farewelling each student on their way. They enjoy waiting to see what farewell they get.
Once students become familiar with the farewells, let them farewell you instead with the animal of their choice.
Extend by requesting an action to go with the animal farewell - examples included.
Homeroom teachers may prefer to dismiss at the end of the day from the mat or desks. you can also use the poster or print the cards separately, laminate and draw from the pile or let student have lucky dip.
Have fun with this novel exit routine.
