The time-honoured classic picture book by Crockett Johnson called 'Harold and the Purple Crayon,' is the provocation for this Narrative writing unit.
Students explore concepts in story telling and character building, resolving problems and the consequences of those resolutions, and using powerful language to build imagery. Using the narrative writing structure, students reflect on actual experiences and wishful experiences, bringing them together to create their own narrative. Adding in the twist of modelling on the original book, where solutions are 'drawn' by the main character in a coloured art tool of their choice.
