Neurographic Words Visual Art Project a Back to School Drawing Guide
A perfect back to school art project for the first weeks of term. Whether each students creates their name card or a value word that becomes part of your classroom agreement display, these projects add fun and build community during the first few days of the year. Make these Neurographic Names or Value Words drawing art project with this quick Art Elements lesson that suits mid to upper elementary, and middle school students. This Visual Art Guide for bubble lettering, was created for students to explore drawing patterns with lines and shapes, and making interesting visual textures. Students will also explore the principle of contrast through color (colour) and visual texture between the positive and negative spaces. For older students, this is also a great skill review or a self-directed bonus activity at your independent drawing station, when you have early finishers or a rotation for learning activities.

Do you run exploratory art stations or fast finisher art centers (centres) in your classroom or art room? Then you are always needing new ideas for independent activities that students will enjoy. I started creating Visual Guides for my students to use independently, step-by-step for mini projects they use at the drawing table. Projects that build technical skills and media experience while allowing personal interpretation. These Visual Guides work so well that I wanted to share them with you too.
When students can independently work at a choosing center (centre), you can get on with supporting those students that need more help. ⏰ How long should I run an art station for?
If you are an art teacher, then you can make that call based on your programme. For classroom teachers, I recommend that an art station stays open for at least a week, prior to starting a guided, whole class art project with that medium.
Then for another week after completing that project, so that early finishers can further experiment independently.
This quick project will take 1-2 lessons depending on the paper size and media, age and skill level of your students.
❤️ Why should I run art centres (centers) in my classroom? Isn't that just for art teachers?
The short answer is NO.
We can no longer omit art explorations from our classrooms.
Art can make a powerful contribution to our students' mental health
In addition to helping students develop a number of important skills, free expression (like using art stations or art centers) is also good for overall health and well-being. Giving young children a creative outlet can help relieve stress and work through things happening in their lives. By encouraging artistic expression, you can help facilitate further learning and engagement.
