❤️ So what is special about this resource?
What is LINE with Piet Mondrian is NOT a superficial art or craft option. As a specialist in this field, I write lessons that encourage deeper, cross-curricular learning and make meaningful connections to other subject areas. This IS:
- a collage tutorial that uses lines - horizontal, vertical, perpendicular and parallel, plus measurement (Math)
- teaches about connection to other element - shape and color/colour
- teaches about the concept of space - positive and negative
- teaches about the concept of focal point
- makes link to art history and famous artist - De Stijl and Piet Mondrian
- makes cross-curricular links to expressing ideas (How We Express Ourselves) and art movement timelines (Where We Are in Place & Time).
- Fine motor skill improvement - measuring, cutting, gluing, aligning
Students can express their unique ideas through personal choices and modifications (suggestions offered in this guide), while working through the guided project. Pause the PDF presentation in places to discuss next steps with students, check understanding and explore potential student responses or modifications, bringing personal creative ideas to the tutorial. This addresses the Viewing & Responding to artwork objectives in a purposeful way.
This is a new series so please see what teachers, who have used one of my other LINE lesson plans - Element of LINE PETS inspired by Laurel Burch art lesson K - 2nd grade - say:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "My students and I loved this project. It was something different from what we have done in the past and they really enjoyed it. We talked about lines and different uses for them and we made our favorite pets with lines."
